Small Business Marketing Trends for 2018

What’s on the horizon in 2018 for small businesses and nonprofits? Today’s blog is by content marketing expert Catherine Russell on marketing trends for 2018.

Small business and entrepreneurs need to look for new and innovative ways to reach consumers, increase brand awareness, boost their marketing strategy and results – and not spend a lot of money! The key to success in marketing is awareness and preparation. Small business owners need to be aware of what’s working in marketing, and they need to prepare a strategy to reach their goals. We’ve all heard of the guy who creating a video with his iPhone, it went viral and he and sold $1,000,000 of product in days. But none of us can recreate that! Here are three marketing trends that small businesses, entrepreneurs and nonprofits can incorporate in 2018 to boost their marketing efforts.

3 Small Biz Marketing Trends in 2018

1. Chatbots
Small businesses and nonprofits will use chatbots on their websites and social media to improve customer service. Chatbots respond quickly and smoothly to users and are popping up on Facebook pages as well as websites. It is estimated that 85% of interactions will be with chatbots by 2020. Users are 24/7/365. For most small businesses, that’s impossible. Chatbots drive customer engagement and facilitate faster conversions by answering questions or offering suggestions. Users like chatbot because chatbots are on when users are on, and most users expect organizations to have some form of chatbot.

2. Growth Hacking

Growth hacking has been around for a few years… and it shows no sign of going away soon. SEO is often called a growth hacking strategy because it helps you get better results from people who are interested in your service. Other marketing growth hacking strategies to look for are:

  • Tools
Free, freemium and paid tools are available to help attract traffic to your website and convert them to customers
  • Email Marketing Automation
Follow up with customers where they left off in the sales process.
  • Influencer Marketing
Working with influencers in your niche can stretch your marketing budget and target people who are likely to want your service or product.

3. Live Video

Marketing expert Neil Patel says live streaming video will grow even more in 2018. Facebook video sees an average of 135% more organic reach than images:

  • users spend x3 more time watching live videos than a video that’s no longer live
  • users comment x10 more during live videos

While live streaming gained popularity in 2017, there’s a lot of room for new brands to share live video in 2018. According to Social Media Examiner60% of marketers are using in video now, but only 14% are using live video.

When evaluating new marketing ideas, remember it’s not critical that you’re an early adopter: be a strategic adopter. Evaluate the idea and come up with a plan to get the results you want to grow your business in 2018!
